Pennies for Patients

Each year Rocklin Academy Meyers participates in a nationwide program called Pennies for Patients to raise money and help support the mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Pennies for Patients is a three-week program for Elementary and Middle Schools where students collect change and raise funds online while learning about service and philanthropy.

More than 13 million students and 850,000 educators in 27,000 schools across the U.S. participate annually. Since its beginning, students have raised more than $315 million to fund breakthrough therapies and patient services, and more than $26 million in 2015-2016 alone!

10 Ways to Support Your Child during their Pennies for Patients Program

  • Talk to your child about the value of giving back.
  • Share your child’s classroom, school or individual fundraising page with friends and family.
  • Each day, ask your child about the program.
  • Take a coin collection jar to work.
  • Ask if your child would like to write a letter to their Honored Hero.
  • Make a personal donation with a check or online gift.
  • Ask your company about matching gifts.
  • Ask your child if they have any questions about cancer.
  • Encourage your child to explore the For Students section of the Pennies for Patients website
  • Tell them you’re proud of them for making a difference!

We kicked-off Pennies for Patients this year with an assembly on January 30th. Taylor was our special speaker with Jude and Cate helping out during a demonstration!
