Last week our 2nd grade class celebrated Ancient Asian Civilizations. Over the course of the unit, students learned about the invention of paper and calligraphy, the Great Wall of China, Confucius, and heard the story, The Magic Paintbrush. This week they continued their studies by learning about the history of silk and the Chinese New Year. Learning about other cultures and civilizations is a part of our Core Knowledge curriculum. It strengthens students knowledge of history and how it impacts the world around them today. It also teaches our students to respect diversity within our own population. I can say by visiting the classroom, this unit of study was embraced and enjoyed by all!
